I hope you all enjoyed your holiday break! I’ve been easing into the new year, savoring rest, newly made plans, and plotting how to celebrate my entry into 30 club later this month. No new media from me today, but I have some awesome stories to share about the creator economy and I’m opening the door to hear from you one last time before we close the survey!

We’re planning our creative calendar for 2024, and while we think we have great ideas, we’d love to hear from you! We want to make sure you’re getting what you’d like out of this community so that we can grow and implement some of the things on our roadmap to make this space as awesome as possible! Becki and Chris Release Bluebird

Becki and Chris are a couple and YouTubers posting videos about interior design, DIY, helicopters, and cameras. Yes, all three can co-exist apparently. They’ve posted a few helicopter video series before, but I believe this is their first stand-alone film, totalling almost 50 minutes of runtime. If you’re wishing you were in a colder place this winter, this is the film for you!

Netflix’s First-Ever Director of Product and Accessibility

With the rise in captioned video content, I’ve been wondering what else can be done to make videos more accessible to audiences. Netflix seems to have responded to my quiet pondering by hiring their first-ever Director of Product and Accessibility, Heather Dowdy. A Black woman born to deaf parents, her rise in tech and accessibility is a story of lived experience with the deaf community in Chicago. I’m excited for what she’ll bring to the streaming platform.

Boring is the New Sexy

Terence Reilly is the mind behind the viral marketing strategies for two of the most unusual brands gone sexy for their practical functionality, generating a pop culture fandom and following that’s directly translated to sales. From Crocs to Stanley, he has used product placement through visual storytelling to his advantage to bring both brands to the forefront of platforms where influencers of all levels rave about their experience. Maybe there’s no such thing as a boring business?

Russell Wilson’s Gratitude Masterclass

Russell Wilson was seen being chewed out by his coach for not being present for his team while miraculously keeping his composure, given news that the Broncos would not be re-entering contract negotiations with him. In what I can only think of as a response, he posted this video with gameplay and masterfully intertwined hot mic footage of him leading his team with gratitude. Using visual storytelling as a PR strategy to take control of the narrative? Yes, please.
