// Pharrell wants to bring arts competitions back to the Olympics. And the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics would be the perfect time to bring them back. What arts competitions would you like to see? And who do you think would (or should) represent the US in that category?
// I watched a YouTube video from Forbes about why TV shows are worth less than they used to be. Netflix originals and the like are often incredible shows, but with stiffer royalty clauses, many cast and crew don’t see much of the upside of a show or movie that becomes extremely popular. I remember Gabriel Macht and others being vocal about not getting any streaming royalties with Suits moved to Netflix, despite garnering 3 billion (yes, with a B) views. Actors were collectively paid a measly $3,000. Ouch. I would love to see a solution for this, but I’m not sure it will come anytime soon.
// Dan Runcie, the host and founder of Trapital, wrote an amazing piece on Tubi’s growth and made some predictions on where the platform might be headed. Tubi has had an incredible run with increased viewership this year, so I’m hoping they will continue to pour back into the communities that have built the platform’s reputation.
// Spike Lee is a personal favorite filmmaker of mine, and I was saddened to hear that his casting director passed away recently. Winsome Sinclair has credits on many movies you’ve likely heard of, watched, and enjoyed – Malcolm X, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Waiting to Exhale, The Best Man, and many more.
